By 1650 population had dropped to 80 million.  Advent of the new Ònobles of the robeÓ.  Towns were increasing in size the development of the bourgeoisie and burghers was beginning.  Serfdom was still dominate in eastern Europe while in the west it began to decline.  Gunpowder and guns grew in importance to armies as the importance of nobles decreased in the military.
